The Basics
Established in 2004, Wekiva Springs Center provides both inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment in Jacksonville, Florida. Wekiva Springs specializes in dual diagnosis support and has focused treatment for military personnel dealing with PTSD as well as an outpatient treatment track for mature adults. Its outpatient program has facilities in both Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach, both offering treatment at the Partial-Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels of care.
Treatment and Staff
Clients often enroll in the Wekiva Springs outpatient program following completion of residential or inpatient treatment. Clients requiring significant support—especially those with co-occurring disorders—begin treatment at the PHP level, attending group and individual therapy Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Clients who have progressed further in recovery may enter at the IOP level, attending group therapy from 9 am to 12 pm or 1 to 4 pm three to five days each week. The duration of treatment depends on a client’s needs and progress, with treatment plans ranging from two weeks in length to several months. As clients progress, they may step down from the PHP to IOP.
The treatment team includes Master’s-level therapists (such as LCSWs) and psychiatrists experienced in dual diagnosis support for mild to significant mental health disorders. The treatment team uses CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the 12-step framework in therapy. Clients are also encouraged to attend 12-step or other peer support meetings outside of treatment.
New Perspectives is Wekiva’s outpatient track for mature adults over the age of 60. It offers dual-diagnosis support, family education and psychiatric oversight. It also provides transportation to treatment, which is scheduled each weekday.
Extras
Family therapy is available for loved ones who wish to participate in recovery. For aftercare, clients are encouraged to attend a weekly relapse prevention group.
As one of the only Baker Act-licensed facilities in the area, Wekiva’s inpatient facility in Jacksonville often treats residents from other local treatment programs whose mental health diagnoses have escalated to the point where they may be suicidal or homicidal.
