The Basics
Serving Harrisonburg, Virginia for over 20 years, Weaver Counseling provides co-ed outpatient substance abuse treatment to pre-adolescent, adolescent and adult clients with a special focus on dual diagnosis support. Weaver Counseling does not employ the 12-step principles in its approach but does utilize evidence-based treatments such as CBT in a therapeutic environment. Treatment is limited to a basic outpatient level, though special services are available for a range of mental health diagnoses.
Treatment and Staff
Weaver Counseling conducts assessments and evaluations for mental health and substance abuse issues for all potential clients. Weaver Counseling’s approach to substance abuse treatment is holistic, utilizing psychodynamic methods, coaching techniques and life skills development.
Upon enrollment in the program, clients work with staff to create an individualized treatment plan that suits their unique recovery needs. Group therapy is scheduled at varying times throughout the week, covering a variety of topics depending on the client base including dealing with domestic violence, working through sexual and other abuse as well childhood trauma and adult survivors.
Weaver Counseling offers separate men’s and women’s groups, as well as co-ed sessions. It also expects clients to participate in a minimum of one individual therapy therapy per week. Though Weaver Counseling itself does not incorporate the 12-step framework, it does encourage client participation in off-site community AA/NA meetings. Weaver Counseling staff consists of Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs).
Extras
Weaver Counseling staff is also qualified to assist clients with a range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, adult children of alcoholics (ACOA) and co-dependent behavior. Additional groups address issues relating to gender, adolescence, relationships, life transitions and parenting. Weaver Counseling also offers family and couple’s therapy.

Weaver Counseling has been serving the Harrisonburg community for more than two decades with substance abuse treatment and general mental health services. Treatment is limited to general outpatient, but those struggling with co-occurring depression, anxiety, gender-related issues and parenting will find a well-rounded schedule of group discussion topics.
