The Basics
Way of Life Recovery is a sober living located in Palm Beach County, Florida, which is sometimes referred to as the “recovery capital of the world” due to its plethora of 12-step meeting locations and treatment facilities. This program is for men new to sobriety and looking to start over in a structured and caring environment.
Accommodations and Amenities
The facility is a one-story apartment building that features units with two bedrooms and one bathroom. All the rooms are double-occupancy, furnished with full beds and linens. The apartments are simply decorated and bedrooms come with dressers and shared closets. The bathrooms have showers with tubs and counter space for toiletries.
Each of the units has kitchens with a dining table, large refrigerator and cabinet space, as well as a living room with a 43-inch mounted flat-screen TV with cable. The entire complex has high-speed Internet and Wi-Fi. An on-site laundry is also available at no extra cost.
The facility also provides cleaning supplies so clients can easily maintain their apartments. When moving in, residents need only their personal effects. Finally, clients must pay for their own food separately and prepare all meals themselves.
Way of Life arranges frequent sober outings and activities such as house barbecues and dinners for clients. Temporary memberships to a local gym are available. The facility is located only a few minutes from the popular Lake Worth beach, as well as local shops, restaurants and movie theaters. Public transportation is also readily available.
Rules and Regulations
The minimum commitment to the facility is four months and residents must complete 90 12-step meetings in 90 days. After that, they may attend five meetings a week. All residents must also find a sponsor and a home meeting within the first few weeks. Obtaining and maintaining full-time employment is mandatory, though staff at the facility are happy to assist new residents with finding a job after move-in. There are also mandatory weekly group house meetings and individual check-ins.
Each client is assigned a list of chores that must be completed on a daily and weekly basis. Residents must also respect a curfew of 10:30 pm on weekdays and 11:30 pm on weekends. Drug and alcohol screenings are performed three times a week. Failure to provide a sample is considered a positive result and leads to immediate dismissal.
Way of Life collaborates with several local treatment facilities that have Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). Clients can participate in these programs three times a week for three hours at a time. Residents may get a discount on their rent for attending a program, though this must be discussed at intake.
A house manager and support staff are on-site 24 hours a day and there is constant security camera surveillance. Case management services are available upon request.
Extras
Chiropractic and massage services are provided on a bi-monthly basis to all residents at a reduced fee.
In Summary
Though Way of Life’s living quarters are comfortable, this facility puts accountability at the top of its priority list. Its structure combined with an experienced staff makes this a sober living worth considering for those in Florida.
