Waukesha WisconsinThe Basics

Waukesha County Health and Human Services is located near the Moor Downs Golf Course and Fox River in Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. WCHHS provides residents of Waukesha county with a variety of medical and behavioral health services, including a standard outpatient substance abuse treatment track and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). WCHHS began offering outpatient substance abuse services in 2008.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients are placed on the IOP or standard outpatient tracks. IOP clients meet for group therapy three days a week and have individual therapy at least once a month. Clients attend two therapy groups—with both day and evening session available. Most clients complete their treatment plan in the IOP in six weeks.

Clients enrolled in the standard outpatient track attend group therapy once a week and have one psycho-education class each week. Individual sessions are scheduled as-needed. Typical duration for the standard outpatient treatment plan in 12 weeks, and some clients step-down to this less intensive track following completion of the IOP.

Groups have fewer than ten participants and are led by Master’s-level therapists including MFTs and Licensed CADCs. Therapists use CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) and group topics include Errors in Thinking. Gender-specific groups are available for both men and women.

The treatment team highly encourages clients to seek 12-step or other peer support meetings in addition to treatment. The facility hosts two on-site meetings each week—on Monday mornings and Thursday evenings.

WCHHS recently started offering a separate track for individuals requiring dual diagnosis support. Clients in this program meet for targeted dual diagnosis group therapy twice a week and consult with a psychiatrist for medication management to support their mental health diagnosis.

Extras

Family members can attend a client’s individual therapy sessions if the therapist feels it would be beneficial. For aftercare, clients can attend a weekly relapse prevention group. WCHHS runs a volunteer program that enlists those in recovery to visit local mental health centers, jails and hospitals to share their stories and inspire others to pursue sobriety.

Waukesha County Health and Human Services has been providing the residents of Waukesha County, Wisconsin with comprehensive outpatient substance abuse programs for nearly a decade.
