The Basics
With two facilities—one in Yazoo City and the other in Vicksburg—Warren-Yazoo Mental Health Service is a Mississippi-based network of health centers providing comprehensive care. With 14 community health centers certified by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, chemical dependency services are offered in the form of residential treatment at the Warren-Yazoo Chemical Dependency Treatment Center, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at the administrative offices as well as standard outpatient treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Clients must come to the facility for a screening and assessment to determine their recovery needs and acuity. While there are no detox services available, clients are given referrals to outside facilities. Walk-in appointments are available Monday through Friday at 8 am.
Following the assessment, clients meet with a staff member to review program requirements, develop an individualized treatment plan and address additional concerns. Staff utilize evidence-based practices as well as the Matrix Model in treatment.
The IOP track meets in evenings for a total of 15 weeks allowing schedule flexibility to accommodate daytime work and family obligations. Several times per week, clients attend group and individual therapy. Counselors work with the clients on a personal level to address a range of concerns including marriage difficulties, anxiety, stress and finding balance between responsibilities and recovery. Attendance of 12-step meetings is required to supplement the client’s recovery. Clients are drug tested at random to ensure they are staying abstinent during treatment.
Once the client completes the IOP track they may continue treatment by stepping down to the basic outpatient program. Attendance is tailored to each client’s schedule.
Treatment objectives are carried out by a team of Psychiatrists, one Psychologist and a clinical team with a wide range of credentials. Master’s-level clinical therapists, CSACs and community support specialists work directly with the clients to encourage them to work through their difficulties, providing a safe space for processing and achieving their recovery goals.
Extras
Family involvement is integral to recovery at Warren-Yazoo MHS. A family program is available and may be attended at the Chemical Dependency Treatment Center building. Families meet together through Alanon and Naronon meetings to better understand the ripple effect addiction has on the family. Multi-family groups are also available so that all involved can understand the treatment process and how to incorporate relapse prevention tactics.
