The Basics
Located in the city of Wall, New Jersey, Wall Youth Center and Community Services provides outpatient counseling for adolescents and youth. Opened in 1978, Wall Youth Center is a branch of the social services department of Wall Township. The program offers a basic outpatient treatment program assisting youth and their families who are struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders.
In addition to counseling services, the facility acts as a safe space for youth to focus on their education, therapeutic recreation and adventuring. Wall Youth Center is licensed by the state of New Jersey Department of Health.
Treatment and Staff
Services at Wall Youth Center are reserved for residents of Wall County. Before being considered for enrollment, the parents of the young person seeking treatment must call for an over-the-phone assessment. After approximately two weeks, a counselor calls to schedule an appointment for a full intake assessment which determines an individualized treatment plan and the level of care needed as well as addressing any additional concerns that the family may have. All counseling services are available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm.
Treatment centers around individual therapy with a primary counselor. If therapists determine that their client would benefit from peer support, attendance of group therapy is encouraged. Clients are paired with other young people who are in the same age group and who share similar concerns in gender-specific groups to ensure that clients stay focused on their recovery. While the 12-step framework is not incorporated into treatment, attendance of meetings may be recommended. Counselors utilize evidence-based methods including CBT and DBT as well as behavioral modification. Counselors work with clients on social issues, delinquency, coping techniques and substance abuse.
Dual diagnosis support is available for clients struggling with co-occurring disorders. All therapeutic activities are facilitated by LADCs who have experience working with adolescents. Clients in need of more intensive care or medication management are referred to outside practitioners.
Extras
Wall Youth Center offers after school programs and recreational activities to help clients develop healthy social skills. Activities include ping-pong, billiards, arts and crafts, video games and table games. Depending on the season, outside trips are scheduled including hiking, museum outings, visits to trampoline parks, movie nights, mini-golf outings and groups trips to the mall. Consent from parents is required for participation.
