Volunteers of America Southeast Pines Family CampusVolunteers of America Southeast: Pines Family Campus Review

Based out of Valdosta, Georgia, Pines Family Campus is a residential treatment program for women with young children who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The facility is a co-venture between Volunteers of America Southeast and various local housing organizations in the community.

Accommodations and Food

The Pines Family Campus has a total of nine two-bedroom apartments and 19 three-bedroom apartments, all set up duplex-style for a total of 75 beds for women and their children. Each unit is arranged slightly differently though all include bedrooms, bathrooms, a living room with cable TV and WiFi, on-site laundry and a kitchenette. While the facility provides all food, residents are responsible for cooking and preparing their own meals.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff develop their treatment plans. Although detox services are not available on-site, those in need can get referrals to outside programs. While the specifics of each program may vary, all plans include individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The program is 12-step based and also includes support for basic co-occurring disorders like depression and anxiety. In addition to addiction-specific topics, groups also discuss parenting, life skills and anger management. Though lengths of stay are flexible, as clients progress through the program they also work with case managers on any outstanding legal issues and relapse prevention strategies.

The staff at Pines Family Campus consists of MFTs, RNs, case managers, LPCs and additional Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

The facility also offers daycare services for children while the women are in treatment during the day. As part of the larger Volunteers of America Southeast, other standalone mental health counseling services and assessments are available as well. Those in need of stepped down aftercare services can also attend further outpatient therapy or work with staff members to set up other plans.

In Summary

In all, Pines Family Campus is a well-rounded treatment facility which offers women and their children a safe and flexible program for early recovery. Treatment includes evidence-based practices, 12-step integration and dual diagnosis support. For families in the area looking for an affordable and potentially long-term treatment program, Pines Family Campus is worth considering.
