Volunteers of America Southeast The Millennium CenterVolunteers of America Southeast: The Millennium Center Review

Located in the small southwest Georgia town of Cuthbert, The Millennium Center is a residential treatment facility owned and operated through Volunteers of America Southeast. The program is CARF-accredited and community-oriented with treatment specifically for women in early recovery. Unlike many inpatient programs, The Millennium Center offers treatment lasting a full 12 months and includes on-site daycare for mothers with children.

Accommodations and Food

The Millennium Center consists of 20 duplex-style apartments for women and their children. Each of the apartments comes fully decorated and features a master bedroom, bathroom, common living area and kitchenette. Other amenities include on-site laundry, cable TV and WiFi. All residents are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.

Treatment and Staff

On-site detox is not available at Millennium but referrals can be made as necessary. Program specifics differ somewhat from client to client but each incorporates individual, group and family therapy rooted in evidence-based practices including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Because the facility runs a long-term program, treatment is split into four phases designed to provide a full continuum of addiction treatment and life skills. While the first phase is focused on stabilization and addiction education, the middle phases teach women coping skills and emotional processing as they earn more responsibility and freedom. The final phase is dedicated to relapse prevention and case management as a means of preparing for life after primary care. Throughout the program, residents regularly attend 12-step meetings as well. Those with less intensive co-occurring disorders like depression and anxiety can receive treatment here but more severe mental health issues must be referred out to the appropriate facility.

The staff at The Millennium Center consists of LPNs, MDs, LMHCs, LACs, case managers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

As previously mentioned, on-site daycare services are provided. Those in need of aftercare can attend outpatient therapy through Volunteers of America Southeast. Services for veterans and those with developmental disabilities are also available.

In Summary

Volunteers of America Southeast’s The Millennium Center is a comprehensive program for women and children in early recovery. Treatment is long-term and includes 12-step support, evidence-based care and life skills education. The Millennium Center provides a vital resource for women ready to begin recovery and get formalized help with substance abuse in a safe setting.
