The Basics

Based out of Sheridan, Wyoming, Volunteers of America Northern Rockies is an expansive, non-profit organization founded in 1985 with a number of behavioral health programs for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. In addition to its more intensive residential treatment plans, the organization also provides flexible sober living for men and women.

Accommodations and Amenities

Two facilities are available for sober living, each five-bedroom houses for men and women, respectively, located in discreet nearby neighborhoods. In each program, residents get their own rooms with twin beds, dressers, a small desk and closet space. Though the homes differ from one another somewhat, each is arranged like a typical residential home with common living areas, cable TV, on-site laundry, WiFi, backyard space and a fully-equipped kitchen. All residents are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.

Rules and Regulations

In order to attend these programs, all participants must have completed residential treatment prior to attending and must be 18 years or older. As with most sober livings, all clients must also work full-time or attend school for a similar number of hours, all in addition to attending a minimum five hours a week of group therapy. Lengths of stay are flexible, and residents are required to remain sober and submit to random drug tests. Regular 12-step meeting attendance is also required.

Extras

Clients also work with staff members to learn important vocational and life skills to help them discharge and reintegrate into society after the program ends. An on-site house manager and clinician is available around the clock in case of any emergencies as well.

In Summary

In all, Volunteers of America Northern Rockies’ sober living is an affordable resource for men and women who are newly sober. Programming includes support from staff members to teach clients life skills while they attend 12-step meetings, work and/or school. For those in the area looking for further support after primary care, and a safe and structured environment in early recovery, Volunteers of America Northern Rockies’ sober living homes are worth considering.
