Volunteers of America Delaware ValleyVolunteers of America Delaware Valley Review

Based out of Camden, New Jersey, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley provides a residential treatment program for men in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. The program is operated through the nationwide organization Volunteers of America which offers a range of affordable behavioral health and social services to clients throughout the United States.

Accommodations and Food

The Delaware Valley home has 24 beds for men, 20 of which are short-term while four are long-term. The facility has residents staying in dorm-style accommodations with bedrooms shared between two to three men at a time. Each comes with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space and shared bathrooms. The building also has shared common areas with cable TV, on-site laundry and a fully-equipped kitchen. While the organization provides all food for clients, residents are expected to work together to cook and prepare meals for one another.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members determine the necessary frequency of individual therapy and whether dual diagnosis support is needed. Though detox is not available on-site, those in need can get referrals as necessary. All programming includes individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET). Groups sessions cover relapse prevention, addiction education, 12-step recovery concepts, life skills and vocational counseling. Trauma-informed care is also available.

The staff at Volunteers of America Delaware Valley consists of RNs, MDs, CADCs, MSWs, LPCs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

The organization offers specialized residential care to court-ordered clients and parolees who are considered high risk through the Re-Entry Addiction Treatment Program (RESAP). While it uses the same curriculum as listed above, it also includes more interventionist approaches designed to stop criminal thinking and recidivism.

In Summary

Volunteers of America Delaware Valley provides comprehensive residential treatment programs for men based on evidence-based care and 12-step support. Lengths of stay are flexible and all programs are tailored to the needs of the client. For those in the area seeking an affordable treatment option, Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is worth considering.
