The Basics
Vitality Unlimited is a nonprofit community services agency that offers outpatient substance abuse programs at its headquarters in Elko and four other Nevada locations—Reno, Incline Village, Winnemucca and South Lake Tahoe. Founders Dorothy B. North and Ester Quilci started their treatment facility in 1971 with the intention of creating an accessible and dignified way for alcoholics and addicts to sort their lives out.
Treatment and Staff
There are three types of outpatient programs available at Vitality. A detailed assessment of the client is taken initially to determine which treatment options would be the best fit.
The standard outpatient treatment is best for people who have substance abuse problems without either medical or mental health issues. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which is only offered in Elko, is designed for those who are not only struggling with addiction but also have complicating issues, such as a physical problem or a co-occurring disorder. Clients typically take part in therapy and classes for about nine hours per week. In addition, they have full psychiatric support, individual and group therapy options, individualized treatment programs and medication management.
A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is available for those who need extra structure and can devote 20 hours a week to their therapy. Each day of the week, they receive treatment in four-hour sessions, though clients can still live at home and attend work or school if necessary.
Vitality clients may also undergo interventions and drug testing, and are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings.
Length of treatment varies by client, although the facilities recommend a minimum course of at least 90 days. All staff members on board are CADCs.
Extras
Vitality’s facilities are licensed to conduct different assessments and evaluations in order to keep workplaces healthy and safe, and they also participate in Employee Assistance Programs with local businesses. If you’ve got a third DUI on your hands, their diversion program can help you deal with the legal consequences.
The drug and alcohol counselors at these facilities are experienced in working with families or employers to do interventions whenever necessary. Part of the recovery plan involves working closely with families to ensure there’s education and support all-around.
