VIP Community Services Women’s Residential Review
Since 1974, VIP Community Services has provided substance abuse services out of the Bronx, New York City. VIP Community Services treatment options include a program for opiate addicts, a medically supervised outpatient program and gender-specific inpatient programs for men and women.
The Women’s residential program does not follow the 12-step approach, but does incorporate evidence based treatment methods including CBT.
Accommodations and Food
Clients enrolled in VIP Community Services residential program for women live in shared, dormitory-style rooms. Accommodations are both clinical and homey, sleeping up to 40 women at a time. Clients eat three meals a day served family-style in a common dining area. All meals are traditional American-fare, included in the cost of stay and prepared and served by kitchen staff. Apart from standard breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks are also available throughout the day.
Treatment and Staff
VIP Community Services’ Women’s Residence provides clients with individualized treatment schedules. The program employs evidence-based trauma-informed care, educational and vocational planning, mental health support and psychiatric follow up, as well as supported medication monitoring. Clients requiring criminal justice reentry services are accommodated and all residents are supported through the family reunification process.
The intensive and structured program requires residents to attend group therapy, lectures and activities from 8 am to 9 pm. The average length of the program is 30 days, but clients have the option of staying longer, depending on individual progress. Group sessions alternate focus, covering relapse prevention, substance abuse and health education.
Optional community AA/NA meetings are available, and once clients have completed the residential treatment program clients, they typically step down to VIP Community Services’ outpatient services. Staff consists of a medical doctor, a nurse, a psychiatrist, a Master’s-level therapist and Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSAC).
Extras
Referral services and discharge planning are also available, as well as fitness and exercise programs which are incorporated into the program. Mindfulness instruction is also available upon request.
