The Basics
Ville Platte Behavioral Health Clinic provides mental health and substance abuse treatment to adults and children in Evangeline Parrish, Louisiana, 60 miles north of Lafayette. The facility has been in operation since the 1970s but, like all state-run mental health facilities in Louisiana, was privatized in 2012.
Treatment services at Ville Platte are provided at the standard outpatient level of care, and the community-oriented behavioral health facility also provides dual diagnosis support and case management services to help clients navigate available support services as they progress in their journey.
Treatment and Staff
Following an assessment, clients receive a customized treatment plan that is likely to include group therapy once a week, individual therapy as-needed and a recommendation to attend peer support meetings such as 12-step or Celebrate Recovery.
Therapy is CBT-based and groups help clients handle triggers, create boundaries and process recovery issues. Therapists and the psychiatrist can also provide therapy and medication management for co-occurring disorders.
The duration of treatment is progress-based, depending on the needs and recovery goals of each individual. It’s not unusual for clients to receive treatment for over a year, and treatment plans are adjusted as clients’ needs change.
The treatment team at Ville Platte includes MSWs, a physician, a psychiatrist and CADCs. There’s also a social services counselor to help clients access additional social services.
Extras
If a clients’ loved ones wish to participate in treatment, they are invited to attend one-on-one counseling sessions for family therapy. For aftercare, counselors work with clients to create a schedule of on-going individual therapy and/or peer support meetings.
