Victory Vision Counseling Review
Twenty miles north of Chicago, in Mount Prospect, in a dully-colored office building, Vicki Nowack runs the show at Victory Vision Counseling Center. Victory Vision offers an outpatient treatment program for adults 17 and over who struggle with substance abuse. Many Victory Vision clients are DUI/DWI offenders who have been assigned certain hours to complete in recovery programs. There is no residential piece of Victory Vision, so clients typically live nearby. Conveniently, there is a Metro station half a mile from the office for clients who don’t have access to a car or don’t live in the immediate area.
Treatment and Staff
Clients spend 40 to 90 hours here. Classes meet Monday nights, Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. Each class is two-and-a-half hours and taught by a licensed counselor. Nowack’s clients tend to be between 20 and 40 years old, and come in two to three times a week. Classes are offered in English, Hindi, Polish, Ukranian, and Bosnian. Court assigned clients come in with differing degrees of severity in their charges, which affects length and content of their programming. Classes focus on the disease of addiction and the physical effects of drug abuse. Clients are educated about 12-step philosophy, and though there are no AA meetings on-site, Victory Vision strongly recommends attending AA.
In Summary
Victory Vision Counseling is a basic alcohol education program, but it is by no means just a program for people facing charges; it could be a first stop for those unsure if they have a problem. This is a no frills operation that doesn’t overcharge and clients get solid advice from Nowack, who is immensely knowledgeable about the Illinois court system. And she’s in it for the service—Nowack hasn’t changed her prices in the 15 years she’s been in business.
