The Basics

Founded in 2010, Vermont Center for Integrative Therapy is, as its name suggests, an organization that consists of various practitioners of integrative psychotherapy. In general, the facility offers holistic and alternative methods of care, rather than evidence-based psychotherapy. All treatment plans are flexible and individualized with both standard outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) available.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff determine their needs. As an outpatient program, on-site medical detox services are not available though referrals can be provided upon request. Though the specifics of the outpatient schedules may vary, IOP typically consists of at least three groups a week for three hours per session.

Once accepted, participants attend programs that are primarily rooted in individual therapy, though group yoga therapy is also available. The organization’s practitioners use a variety of different methodologies including massage therapy, nutritional counseling, bodywork, yoga, meditation, mindfulness training, Reiki, energy work, aromatherapy and evidence-based counseling such as CBT and DBT. Despite the focus on holistic medicine, the organization does include psychiatric oversight as well. Dual diagnosis support and medication management are available, though clients seeking medical support may need to look elsewhere. While 12-step participation is not required, referrals are available upon request.

The staff at Vermont Center for Integrative Therapy consists of LMFTs, LPCs, yoga instructors, naturopathic doctors and additional Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

Men’s specific groups for trauma, anger management, emotional intelligence and meditation are also available. Additional programs include special care for those with eating disorders. Therapy sessions are available for adults, families, couples, children and teens as well. Those who complete a primary care plan can also work with staff members to develop discharge and aftercare plans.

In Summary

Overall, the Vermont Center for Integrative Therapy is a broad organization made up of many different counselors with their own specialities. While the program does include psychiatric support and evidence-based therapy as needed, its main focus is on a host of holistic and alternative healing options including body work, energy work, yoga and mindfulness training. While those in need of detox or thorough medical oversight may not find this program the best fit, the Vermont Center for Integrative Therapy remains a strong resource for those seeking an open-minded approach to addiction and recovery.
