Located in the Southern California community of Woodland Hills is Valley Anger Management (VAM), an outpatient facility that provides a supportive environment for group and individual therapy intended to foster practical approaches to dealing with feelings and causes of anger. Services include both online and in-person treatment along with a program that focuses solely on relationships and families. Treatment techniques employ a variety of methods from traditional to holistic.
Treatment and Staff
The initial intake process is in a one-on-one session with one of the staff therapists who guide each client to figure out what their specific needs are while participating in the programs, exploring the underlying issues for why the client is there in the first place. There are groups offered six days a week in the morning or evening in order to accommodate personal schedules. Groups are gender-specific and co-ed. Since a majority of clients come to anger management classes based off a referral due to an incident, VAM works to establish relationships with companies, schools and court systems to make sure all requirements and expectations are satisfied on both sides.
While the catalyst for being a part of programming at VAM is unaddressed anger, clients also cover a variety of other issues during treatment. This can be domestic violence, substance abuse, depression and anxiety, PTSD, grief/loss or marital issues. There are also stress management programs, which can be taken in conjunction with anger management, that offer techniques to identify each client’s triggers and begin to see stress as a motivator, as opposed to a destructive entity.
Therapy at VAM includes CBT, narrative brief therapy, solutions based therapy, collaborative therapy, art therapy and addiction counseling. There are also workspace specific programs and hypnotherapy services.
There are three main therapists at VAM who bring many years of experience and extensive training to their clients. Their accreditations are LMFT and most specialize in working with both children and adults who struggle with anger issues and substance abuse. They also offer executive coaching and life coaching services.
For couples and family members there are group and individual sessions at the facility that provide guidance in discovering better ways to communicate and how to understand each other’s needs.
Having to face one’s anger issues is never easy. The staff of Valley Anger Management offer treatment that is totally judgment-free with the intention of helping each person discover what may be driving the angry feelings and begin the process of unpacking them. It’s a viable resource for Southern California residents and perhaps a crucial first step in the healing journey for both clients and their loved ones.
