In addition to its general medical care programs, it also offers residential treatment programs for those struggling with addictions and co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System’s inpatient program has 78 beds at its University Drive campus and 65 beds at its Delafield Road campus. The accommodations are relatively clinical with shared dorm-style rooms with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. In addition to the bedrooms, the facilities also include shared common areas with cable TV, outdoor walking paths and a cafeteria where residents are served three meals a day.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop individualized treatment plans. Those in need of detox services can do so on-site before continuing onto therapy. While the specifics of each plan may vary, all programming includes individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. Groups cover a range of issues including relapse prevention, trauma-informed care, coping skills and other rotating topics. Dual diagnosis support is available including medication management. Throughout the program, all clients also attend regular on-site 12-step meetings.
The staff at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System consists of MDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists, LCSWs, LPCs and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.
Extras
The organization offers primary medical care as well as flexible case management services. Those who finish residential treatment can step down to outpatient treatment as a form of aftercare.
