The Basics
Based out of Danville, Illinois, VA Illiana Health Care System is an expansive organization that facilitates a number of flexible treatment services to low-income and homeless veterans. The organization is a subsidiary run by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Aside from its medically-oriented services, the facility also provides an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for those struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Each client undergoes an initial bio-psycho-social screening to help staff members develop individualized treatment plans. Detox is not offered on-site but referrals are available as necessary. The Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SARP) IOP lasts for a total of six weeks and includes both individual and group therapy that implements evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. Groups cover a range of topics including relapse prevention, coping skills, self-esteem, assertiveness, anger management, nutrition and problem-solving. Though 12-step participation is not required as part of the program, clients can attend off-site meetings if they wish.
The staff at VA Illiana Health Care System SARP consists of RNs, psychologists, LCSWs, LPCs, dietitians, MDs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
The SARP wider organization provides case management services, basic healthcare, PTSD-oriented care and standalone mental health services. For those who are homeless, the facility also offers a sober housing option where clients live in nearby apartments while they attend SARP.
