The Basics
With clinics in Provo, Lehi and Mapleton, Utah as well as one in Las Vegas, Nevada, Utah Valley Counseling is a wide-ranging organization that uses many therapists across the Utah Valley to help clients struggling with behavioral health issues. In addition to counseling services for eating disorders, the organization also provides support for sex addiction, trauma, relationships and even extramarital affairs.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an intake and assessment process to help the staff determine their needs. While on-site detox and stabilization services are not available, referrals to nearby programs can be made as necessary. While each clinicians has their own specializations, therapy generally includes many different evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT, EMDR and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Individual, group, couples and family therapy modalities are available as well, though the availability of each of these combinations may vary by location and clinician.
In all the above, counseling typically covers topics including life skills, emotional processing, trigger identification, relapse prevention, trauma, depression, anxiety and other related topics. While 12-step participation is not strictly required in any of these programs, it may be encouraged in some circumstances. Similarly, although basic dual diagnosis support may be available for those with less severe issues, medical and psychiatric assistance are not included.
Extras
As mentioned, the organization does provide specialized services for sex and pornography addiction as well. Standalone family and couples counseling is also available along with community outreach presentations for local businesses and organizations. Those who complete primary care can also work with the staff to develop step-down aftercare and discharge plans as necessary.

In all, Utah Valley Counseling is a broad organization with many therapists bringing their skills to bear on a myriad of behavioral health issues. Treatment is evidence-based and individualized and includes flexible scheduling to suit anyone’s needs. In addition to its more standard eating disorder and personal counseling programs, those dealing with sexual compulsions can also find solace here. Although anyone in need of medical or psychiatric intensive help may need to seek additional aid, Utah Valley Counseling remains a helpful organization worth considering for those in the area.
