The Basics
Since 1996, Urton & Associates has been providing outpatient treatment to the residents of Rocky Mount, North Carolina—a city 60 miles east of Raleigh in Northeastern North Carolina. Urton & Associates was founded by Michael Urton, an Internationally Licensed Chemical Addiction Specialist (ILCAS) with over 30 years of experience in substance abuse treatment. Urton settled in Rocky Mount after retiring from the Marine Corp, where he worked in substance abuse treatment at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville.
Treatment and Staff
After an assessment, Urton creates a treatment plan for clients that includes group therapy and psychoeducation classes once or twice a week and individual therapy as-needed. Most clients complete their treatment plan in five to ten weeks. Group therapy uses Motivational Interviewing (MI), and psychoeducation groups explore the disease model of addiction, handling triggers and relapse prevention. Processing groups and classes usually contain 15 participants and never exceed 20.
Treatment plans are likely to include encouragement to attend 12-step meetings—either AA or NA—and Urton suggests the frequency according to the client’s treatment needs and schedule. Clients who present symptoms of a mental health diagnosis are referred to nearby community mental health clinics for dual diagnosis support.
Extras
If clients and Urton think it beneficial, family members are invited to attend individual counseling. Urton & Associates also provides DWI Services and is the only area facility approved to perform Department of Transportation (DOT) substance use evaluations.
