Urban Dreams is a human service agency that has provided a variety of assistance programs to the community with a special focus on lower socio-economic demographics for 30 years. Located in the capital of Iowa, one of the many services this Des Moines facility offers is a state-licensed outpatient substance abuse treatment program which employs evidence-based treatment methods. Clients of every walk of life are given access to mental health services as well as education and public safety at an affordable price.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient program at Urban Dreams begins with an initial evaluation and assessment to determine each client’s specific needs and to develop an individualized treatment plan. Each unique track dictates the frequency of sessions, the best therapies to meet each client’s unique needs and the overall duration of treatment.
Urban Dreams staff utilize CBT for both individual and group therapy, family therapy and aftercare for both adults and adolescents. Individual therapy is scheduled independently between clients and their counselor, while group sessions are available several times a week at various times throughout the day. Urban Dreams also offers OWI classes—either in a 12-hour or a 48-hour weekend jail-diversion class. The 12 steps are not integrated into the program, but clients can be referred to local chapters if they seek community and peer-support.
In addition to outpatient substance abuse treatment, UDS also offers information and referral services, social mediation and consultation, voter education, a youth food and farm program, a gateway to college program and the Iowa Brown and Black Forum.
Urban Dreams has a range of community services catering to the under-served demographics of the Des Moines area. The substance abuse treatment program is individualized, utilizes evidence based therapeutic methods and allows clients to schedule treatment around their busy work, school and family obligations.
