University of Maryland Shore Behavioral Health Inpatient Review
With several locations throughout Maryland, the University of Maryland Shore Behavioral Health is a full-service behavioral health hospital that provides a treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders. Aside from its outpatient programs, the facility also has a short-term inpatient unit in Dorchester.
Accommodations and Food
The inpatient unit has a total of 24 beds with both shared and private rooms available. Each comes with twin bed(s) and standard hospital-style amenities. Residents are provided with three meals a day plus snacks and special diets can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial intake and assessment, clients work with staff to develop an individualized treatment plan. The length of each client’s stay varies but is typically 30 days or less. Treatment includes evidence-based group and individual therapy with additional psychiatric support for clients with a dual diagnosis. Family therapy can also be added in as necessary. Daily routines include educational sessions addressing coping mechanisms, self-esteem, communication skills and other issues related to mental health. While 12-step participation is not strictly required, clients can receive referrals to off-site meetings upon request.
The staff consists of MDs, nurse practitioners, LCSWs, CACs, LPCs and further Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Additional services include outpatient treatment, including an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at the Chestertown, Cambridge and Easton locations. Aftercare is offered by way of outpatient programs. For those transitioning from inpatient who need further psychiatric treatment can enroll in the Bridge Clinic, which helps clients secure additional follow-up care.
