Unity House of Cayuga County Grace House Review
Unity House of Cayuga County Grace House is the residential substance abuse treatment program offered by Unity House of Cayuga County, a non-profit mental and behavioral health treatment and service organization. Located in Auburn, New York—just 40 minutes outside of Syracuse—Grace House is a co-ed program that integrates the 12 steps with evidence-based treatment methods to help clients develop self-esteem, life skills and independence on their journey towards becoming reliable and contributing members of their communities.
Accommodations and Food
Grace House clients are accommodated in a home-like setting with beds for both men and women. Rooms are double occupancy and gender specific as are bathrooms. Additionally, there is a full laundry facility and common areas include a living room with cable TV, a recreation area and a dining room. Meals are served three times a day and cater to dietary restrictions.
Treatment and Staff
Grace House starts treatment with a full interview and assessment to determine which therapies and group topics may best serve each client’s needs. Individualized treatment programs are developed, with duration varying per individual—though treatment typically lasts six to nine months.
Treatment at Grace House uses a modified therapeutic community model with a dual diagnosis enhanced option as well. Clients attend two group sessions per day, one individual session per week and family counseling can be scheduled for those who may benefit from the additional support.
Various types of therapies are implemented in group sessions that serve to treat the whole individual and not just the disease. Therapies include CBT, DBT, dual-diagnosis enhanced and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Mindfulness, employment counseling, independent living skills training, relapse prevention and medication management are also available.
The Grace House staff consists of psychologists, LCSWs, LADCs and case managers.
Extras
In addition to a comprehensive substance abuse treatment program, Unity House of Cayuga County also offers a variety of other health and wellness services to clients and the broader community. General mental health services, developmental disabilities services, nursing services, youth programs and supported living services are also available under the comprehensive umbrella of care.
Clients may also opt to step down to Unity House’s sober living facility following completion of residential treatment.
