The Basics
Unity Counseling Services (UCS) is a substance abuse treatment program offered by Benton Franklin Community Action Connections, which is a non-profit social and human services corporation. Located in Pasco, Washington, clients are surrounded by small town charm and community, while still having access to the resources of Walla Walla, which is just under an hour away. The substance abuse treatment program provided by UCS is exclusively outpatient.
Treatment and Staff
The program for substance abuse treatment at UCS places a strong emphasis on education throughout the program. An initial assessment helps the counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan that determines the frequency of the types of therapies for that particular client. Most clients will see the counselor for individual sessions at least twice a week, while attendance of the group sessions (held three times a week) is encouraged at least once a week. Education is integrated into all the CBT-based therapies and includes discussions on topics such as the nature of chemical dependency, relapse prevention, understanding the root of the individual’s addiction through psychoanalysis, anger management, coping skills and DUI offender information for those who are not offenders. The 12 steps are not a part of the program. Random urine testing and breathalyzers are administered throughout the course of treatment. UCS does not have an extensive dual diagnosis program but other resources within Benton Franklin Community Action Connections might be of service to those with potential co-occurring disorders.
The staff at UCS consists of LCSWs, LPCs, CADCs and LMHCs.

In addition to Unity Counseling Services, Benton Franklin Community Action Connections also offers a variety of other health and wellness services clients and community members. Other services include mental health programs, domestic violence programs, sexual assault programs, family services, education programs, housing services, vocational assistance, teen/child services, veteran services, legal services, free meals, financial counseling, transportation services and medical services.
