The Basics
Operating out of Madison, Tennessee since 1976, United Neighborhood Health Services provides basic outpatient mental health and substance abuse services to individuals and their families struggling with psychological and/or substance abuse issues in the wider Nashville area. United Neighborhood Health Services treats a wide range of clientele—including the immigrant and refugee community—regardless of their ability to pay for treatment. UNHS does not utilize the 12-step principles in its treatment approach, instead focusing on traditional therapy and dual diagnosis support.
Treatment and Staff
UNHS’ co-occurring disorders program typically lasts 12 weeks. Prior to enrollment, clients must meet with a counselor for an initial intake assessment, then with a medical doctor for a physical exam. Those determined to be in need of treatment for opioid addiction receive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using Suboxone.
Clients approved for the outpatient track follow an individualized schedule of attending a number of group therapy per week, determined by their initial intake, with sessions scheduled Monday through Saturday. Clients also attend weekly individual therapy with a staff therapist. Dual-diagnosis support is available throughout treatment hours.
United Neighborhood Health Services staff consists of two Master’s-level therapists and four behavioral health clinicians, as well as a medical doctor.
Extras
In addition to mental health and addiction support, UNHS also provides the Nashville community with medical, dental, women’s health, health education, homeless services, pediatric and elderly care.
