Umeed Wellness Centre Review
Umeed Wellness Centre is a substance abuse treatment center in the New Delhi district of India’s capital city Delhi. It offers detox, inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment to male clients 18 years and over. Umeed, which means “hope” in the Indian language of Urdu, was founded in 2006 by Girish (Gary) Kurra, who has long-term sobriety. After getting clean, Kurra was inspired to help other men as a tribute to his late recovery mentor, who passed away after helping Kurra through his early years of clean and sober. Based on 12-step principles, programs at Umeed are available in English, Hindi and Urdu.
Accommodations and Food
Umeed Wellness Centre takes a maximum of 18 clients at a time. Residents are housed in dorms with bunk beds and shared bathrooms. Facilities include a lounge with a coffee pot and satellite TV, a dining room and communal outdoor space with a swimming pool and smoking area. All meals are prepared on site and included in the price of treatment.
Treatment and Staff
The program at Umeed Wellness Centre is 90 days. Detox clients begin their stay at a nearby hospital under medical supervision and transfer to the facility once stabilized. Treatment is based on the Minnesota Model, with a heavy emphasis on the 12 steps. Clients have daily CBT-based individual therapy in addition to group therapy twice a day. There are also guided meditations and on-site AA/NA meetings daily. Support for co-occurring disorders is available in the form of individual therapy with a psychiatrist and medication management.
Umeed Wellness Centre employs a medical doctor and two counselors, as well as a consulting psychiatrist.

The aftercare program offers ongoing outpatient therapy and alumni groups.
