The Basics
The Umatilla County Addictions Program has been offering outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults in Oregon since 1983. With three locations spread out along the Umatilla River, the Addictions Program makes sure treatment and prevention services are accessible to the majority of county residents along the Oregon Trail.
Treatment and Staff
The Addictions Program at Umatilla County offers evidence-based treatment with a 12-step focus. The first step in treatment is to attend a 90-minute group orientation. These sessions are facilitated by one member of the counseling staff and no appointment is necessary. Potential clients are required to bring photo ID and proof of insurance if available. After orientation and paperwork, clients make an appointment for an assessment with a substance abuse counselor. From this point, clients are assigned a primary counselor and a treatment plan is recommended. There are a total of six licensed substance abuse counselors on staff with the capacity to treat co-occurring disorders. For clients who require medication management, there is also a psychiatrist on staff.
The duration of the outpatient program and frequency of visits varies depending on the client. Group size is limited to 10 and clients are assigned to groups based on need. Group therapy takes place in a conference room and individual therapy is held in one of the counseling offices. Individual sessions and groups are both 60 minutes in length. Topics covered include substance abuse education, relapse prevention, introduction to the 12 steps, ways to succeed and family dynamics. Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, but it is not required.
Extras
DUI classes are offered at all three facilities along with Anger Management group and treatment for gambling addictions. Umatilla County also offers family therapy and aftercare programming.
