The Basics
Based in Portland, Michigan, Two Rivers Counseling and Consulting is a small outpatient facility that provides therapy, coaching and consultations for substance abuse and mental health. The firm is owned and operated by Margary M. Briggs and is a contracted provider for the Ionia County Substance Abuse Initiative. All services are offered by appointment only.
Treatment and Staff
After intake, clients work with Briggs to develop an individualized treatment plan. While each plan may differ, treatment generally consists of a series of goal-oriented individual therapy using evidence-based methods such as CBT, DBT, EMDR and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT). Principles from the 12 steps and SMART Recovery are also incorporated as necessary; however, clients are not required to attend AA/NA meetings unless they are court-ordered to do so. Therapy also focuses is on behavioral skills development, strengthening self-esteem, relapse prevention and building recovery-oriented lifestyles. Treatment is available for adults, adolescents and couples.
While the facility is not designed to offer longer-term treatment for substance abuse, court-ordered clients may attend for up to a year.
Extras
Additional services include treatment for gambling addiction, court-ordered driver’s license evaluations, substance abuse assessments, workplace and response training and case management. Relationship and general counseling for sudden life upheavals, generalized depression and anxiety is also available.
In Summary
Two Rivers Counseling Center provides intimate, highly personalized treatment to court-ordered and self-referred clients. Trained in a number of evidence-based practices, Briggs affords her clients a diverse range of treatment methods as well as scheduling flexibility that may not be available at larger facilities. While this level of one-on-one treatment may not be suitable for everyone, those who thrive best in more personally-focussed settings will find Two Rivers Counseling and Consulting to be solid choice for outpatient care.
