The Basics
Twin Lakes Recovery Center opened its doors last year to provide state-of-the art detox, residential and outpatient treatment near Atlanta, Georgia. Twin Lakes’ residential campus is in Monroe and its outpatient facility is in Gainesville.
Though a new addition to Atlanta’s recovery community, Twin Lakes’ clinical and executive leadership has decades of experience in health care administration and the treatment of co-occurring disorders. Twin Lakes offers outpatient treatment at the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) level of care and uses a variety of evidence-based therapies to help clients avoid relapse and treat co-occurring disorders. While it encourages clients to work the 12 steps, Twin Lakes prides itself on accommodating clients of different belief systems and can support those who wish to find other recovery programs for peer support.
Treatment and Staff
Twin Lakes IOP is 12 weeks long. Clients attend group therapy three evenings a week (more if needed) and have individual therapy as-needed. The program admits both clients who are stepping down from residential treatment and those who are entering recovery.
Treatment groups use CBT, DBT and solutions-focused therapy. Since many clients have completed residential treatment and are now confronting the stressors of reintegrating into their home and work lives, therapy often addresses emotional coping skills such as assertiveness, anger management and creating boundaries.
Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings on their own; however, those who are resistant to the 12-step framework are welcome, and the treatment team works with them to identify other sober support meetings, such as SMART Recovery.
The treatment team at Twin Lakes includes a consulting psychiatrist, an MSW and an LPC who can provide therapy and medication management for those in need of dual diagnosis support.
Extras
For aftercare, the treatment team helps each client create a plan that may include ongoing individual therapy, peer support meetings and sober social activities. Clients are encouraged to bring loved ones into their recovery process and schedule family therapy sessions with their counselors.
