Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, a mecca of 12-step programs, Twin City Chemical Health Services offers a short-term outpatient solution for substance abuse issues. Treatment and Staff
The program offered at this facility is geared toward court-ordered clients and is designed to address chemical dependency and DUI education. Detox is not available, nor is psychiatric help for those with co-occurring disorders. Treatment begins with an assessment that determines the duration of treatment. Therapy combines CBT and DBT with an abstinence-based, 12 step approach. By participating in a mix of group therapy, individual therapy, 12-step work, education and mentoring, clients are able to learn new ways of thinking.
Depending on a client’s needs, this program is offered over four different timeframes: 8 hours, 16 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours. Groups meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Group topics include relapse prevention, anger management, parenting, life skills, mental health, vocational training and processing. Individual counseling is available for each client once a week. Clients are educated about the addiction-as-a-disease model, as well as the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol. While 12-step meetings are not a part of the program, clients are encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings during their free time.
Clients are able to build cognitive skills during their time in treatment through role-playing and group discussion. These activities address destructive desires and antisocial impulses. The idea is that if you change your thinking, your behavior will automatically change as well. Life skills are another crucial part of this program. While some facilities focus solely on eliminating substance abuse, Twin City Chemical Health Services recognizes the importance of teaching clients how to live. Financial planning addresses bills and budgeting while recreation time at local parks releases endorphins and creates healthy exercise habits.
The staff includes certified chemical dependency counselors and social workers.
Extras
Twin City Chemical Health Services offers a 24-hour outpatient relapse prevention program. Random breathalyzer and urine tests are part of the treatment protocol for all clients.
