The Basics
First opened in 2008, The Turquoise House is one of three sober living homes (including The Pima House and The Miller House) that are part of Sober Living AZ (SLAZ). The Turquoise House is located in a quiet neighborhood of Scottsdale, Arizona, and is upscale, modern and comfortable. The Turquoise House is a men’s only 12-step facility where clients do daily chores, participate in house meetings and follow individualized treatment schedules.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Turquoise House has a total of six bedrooms for clients, with two queen beds in each of them. Single rooms are available for an extra $600 a month charge. Maximum capacity is designated at 10 clients at a time. The Turquoise House is the most luxurious of the three houses. It has a pool with its own waterfall and a guest house specially assigned for senior residents, as well as the standard amenities—two washers and dryers, WiFi and flat screen TVs with cable. All food is provided and each client prepares his own breakfast, while all residents take part in family-style lunch and dinner that they take turns cooking for the house.
Rules and Regulations
Clients are given daily chores and required to follow all house rules and participate in house meetings, as well as maintain their personal treatment schedule. Random breathalyzers and drug tests are performed a minimum of once a week, as a measure of compliance. The 12-step philosophy is utilized and residents are required to attend daily 12-step meetings and to take part in morning and evening meditation groups. On-site detox services are also available for an additional charge, if necessary.
Clients of The Turquoise House have the option to participate in the combined sober living and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at the nearby SLAZ treatment facility. IOP clients attend three group therapy sessions per week and have one to two individual counseling sessions a week. EMDR sessions are available for those dealing with trauma issues. The initial assessment includes both a medical and psychological evaluation in the first week of treatment with a psychiatrist and medical doctor. Medication-assisted treatment, medication management and dual diagnosis support are all available. There are relapse prevention workshops provided as well as daily on-site AA/NA meetings. The The Miller House staff consists of CDACs and MFTs and the house is supervised 24/7.
Extras
The Turquoise house boasts a basketball court, swimming pool and hot tub. Some weekly services available to those staying at The Turquoise House include: life coaching, yoga, meditation classes, equine therapy sessions and art therapy.
