Mission Viejo CaliforniaTurning Point Treatment Center Review

In 2007, the Turning Point Treatment Center started offering co-ed substance abuse treatment out of Mission Viejo, California. Options available at Turning Point include medically assisted detox and residential stays of 30, 60 and 90 days (that may extend to six months to a year). Turning Point also offers basic outpatient treatment utilizing a 12-step approach. Turning Point operates two houses—one in Mission Viejo and the other in Temecula.

Accommodations and Food

All Turning Point clients are accommodated in comfortable, private homes with modern furnishings. Each house is spacious, with 3,700 square feet of living space and five bedrooms (clients sleep two to a room). Common areas feature flat screen TVs, gazebos, a meditation garden, a BBQ area and wifi throughout. Turning Point grounds also feature an 18-hole golf course and a tennis court, as well as pool tables. Residential clients are given complimentary memberships to L.A. Fitness in order to maintain their physical recovery.

The Mission Viejo houses are a short walking-distance from Lake Mission Viejo and only 10 minutes from Orange County beach. Three healthy meals are served each day, and clients may bring extra cash for store runs and activities. The Temecula home also has a pool and equine therapy.

Turning Point houses are not lock-down facilities, and group sessions may be held at the nearby lake. Clients are permitted laptops, mp3 players and/or cameras, though they cannot bring the devices into sessions. All Turning Point houses are pet friendly.

Treatment and Staff

Following a 7- to 10-day medically-monitored detox, clients are enrolled into either a short-term, 30-day intensive program, a 60-day mid-level track or a 90-day track—all of which may be extended by six months or up to a year.

Clients must submit to an in-house drug and alcohol screening, then continue to work with counselors and a medical doctor to monitor their sobriety and wellness. Turning Point daily schedules are non-intensive, focusing instead on holistic healing. CBT and the 12-step framework are both available and incorporated into treatment upon request. Dual diagnosis support is also available for those with co-occurring disorders. Individual and group therapy are scheduled regularly and include gender-specific groups, educational lectures, relapse prevention, transition planning, self-help and parenting skills classes. A family program of workshops is also available.

Staff includes English and Spanish-speaking CACs as well as psychiatrists, psychologists and detox-specializing medical doctors.

Extras

Intervention services are available for families wishing to persuade loved ones to accept help. Free alumni meetings are scheduled weekly, and a legal system advocacy component is provided to clients in need, as is a year’s aftercare.

Additionally, Turning Point has an executive program—a 12-step based private and customized track to meet the unique needs of professionals.

In Summary

Nearing its 10th year of operation, Turning Point Treatment Center is a well-established residential program that allows flexibility in treatment duration. The therapeutic approach is holistic and includes a diverse selection of groups that employ evidence based methods. By also incorporating the 12-step framework and alumni groups, clients are given a supportive peer environment to help sustain lasting recovery.
