Located in Southaven Mississippi and serving the nearby Memphis metro and northern Mississippi area, Turning Point Recovery is a behavioral health organization that provides treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders. The organization offers several outpatient options as well as detox and inpatient tracks for adult and adolescents.

Founded in February 2009 by Memphis area businessman and recovering alcoholic, Clark Converse, Turning Point Recovery maintains his vision to provide a place for people to recover from addiction and rebuild their lives. In 2011, Converse  joined forces with Jimmy Franks, the owner and founder of Lighthouse Recovery Residences, to create an even larger and more comprehensive continuum of care.

Accommodations and Food

Turning Point’s residential program is called Southaven Treatment Center and is located in a large building that was formerly a hotel. The space offers room for six clients in the detox ward and the rest of the facility is split by age and gender. Rooms are double-occupancy, with twin beds and basic furnishings, including desks and closet space. The residence also boasts an on-site gym, a game room and a pool. Clients can expect three healthy meals a day prepared by the staff. Upon request, dietary restrictions can generally be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

Clients begin the program by undergoing an assessment to help the staff develop individualized treatment plans. Detox is provided on site and withdrawal symptoms are medically managed in a clinical setting. The process generally lasts three to five days and clients can then transition seamlessly into the inpatient program. If needed, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is available for opiate addictions. This type of treatment is offered in conjunction with detox or as a maintenance program, but both options require ongoing participation in therapy. MAT utilizes Suboxone and facilitates medication management.

Treatment ranges from 30 to 90 days, depending on the client and includes daily individual and group therapy. There are both co-ed and gender-specific groups, with adolescents participating in a specialized track. Evidence-based practices are emphasized, particularly DBT, with Motivational Interviewing (MI) and components of the 12-step philosophies and psychoeducation. Those requiring dual diagnosis support benefit from targeted groups and medication management.

Staff includes a physician, a psychiatrist who specializes in addiction and Master’s-level counselors who hold LCSW and MFT credentials.

Extras

Clients are offered holistic and recreational activities, like art therapy and daily exercise at the gym. In addition, Turning Point offers aftercare support in the form of outpatient treatment from the main location as a well as an additional office in Cordova, Tennessee. Turning Point also provides referrals to sober living facilities through Lighthouse Recovery Residences.

In Summary

Turning Point Recovery offers a full range of treatment services for clients in the Memphis and northern Mississippi area. Its inpatient programs use a combination of evidence-based and holistic approaches to treatment, aimed at lasting recovery. For those seeking a solid resource for inpatient care with outpatient and sober living extensions, Turning Point Recovery a great option.

  1. Terence Schwind on

I just completed 30 days at this facility and found nightly A.A. meetings to be the norm, weekly one on one sessions with my assigned therapist and one on ones with a recovery coach ANY TIME if I requested it. The key to any treatment is to be a willing participant. My hat is off to the folks at Turning Point.

  2. Avoid this place! One on one counseling that was promised was given only once in 30 days. AA mtgs were nonexistent. Paid a set price for 60 days, but then when my daughter left after 30 days, they kept $1000, stating they were now reverting to the 30 day price. Crooked and nonethical. Very disappointed. Thankfully she found treatment elsewhere.
