Turning Point Recovery CenterThe Basics

Founded in 2010, Turning Point Recovery Center is a client-centered detox and outpatient treatment facility for substance abuse. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this program offers both inpatient and outpatient detox programs, in addition to a 10-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). While clients are required to attend AA/NA meetings during their time in treatment, therapy is also a crucial part of the recovery process. Both individual and group counseling allow clients to delve into the reasons for their addictions. For those who have suffered from trauma, EMDR is available at an additional cost.

Accommodations and Food

Turning Point Recovery Center’s five-bed detox facility offers 24-hour medical care and private rooms. The comfort level and physical well-being of the clients are of utmost importance during the seven day period. The rooms are basic, with single beds and wooden dressers. Three meals a day are provided and clients are allowed to eat in their rooms if they cannot make it to the dining hall.

Treatment and Staff

Turning Point Recovery Center offers inpatient and outpatient, medically monitored, detox program options, as well as IOP and EDMR for trauma. The programs all integrate the 12 steps with traditional therapy provided in both group and individual settings. The staff is highly-trained and group sizes are kept small in order to give clients individualized attention.

The detox period usually lasts between five to seven days, depending on the substance used and severity of usage. Clients who attend the inpatient program stay at the facility and receive 24-hour medical attention, while the outpatient detox clients come to the facility on a daily basis for vitals checks and medication.

IOP is an 10-week course that occurs three times a week, in three-hour sessions. Groups meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 pm to 9 pm. The main focus of this program is group therapy, allowing clients to discuss topics such as relapse prevention, trauma, processing, anger management, life skills, introduction to the 12 steps and codependency. In addition to group work, clients receive one 60-minute individual therapy session per week.  Clients in the IOP are required to attend three AA/NA meetings per week. The steps can be discussed in detail during group therapy and while sponsorship is not required, it is encouraged.

The staff includes a medical doctor, nurses, therapists and counselors.

Extras

Clients who need it are able to take part in EMDR sessions with a specialized therapist. Random weekly drug tests are provided in the IOP program.

Individual sessions are available with a trained therapist to help clients’ families determine how best to take care of themselves, help their loved one and move forward with life. Topics addressed include boundaries, consequences, support, communication, resentment, shame and guilt.

In Summary

Through the daily medical support of the detox program, Turning Point clients can find physical stabilization as they get clean. From there, the IOP teaches clients how to live a sober lifestyle, blending AA/NA meetings with traditional therapy. Combined, these programs can help create long-lasting sobriety.
