Turning Point of Arnold is a residential treatment program located in the quaint Northern California mountain town of Arnold. It caters to men and women who struggle with substance abuse and offers a structured 12-step based program. The small treatment program provides several therapeutic services and activities using a comprehensive and experiential approach.
Accommodations and Food
The intimate facility can accommodate up to 12 clients. It is surrounded by dense forest, sprawling mountain views and sparking lakes. The bedrooms accommodate between two and three clients in twin beds. The entire facility has a rustic feel to it, from the wooden picnic style tables in the dining room to the hammock hung between two giant trees in the backyard.
The house includes a living room with plush couches and a TV. There is also a sitting room, office, laundry room and large kitchen. Residents can enjoy a ping pong table and a fire pit outside.
Clients dine together on meals that an on-site cooking staff prepares.
Treatment and Staff
The inpatient program at Turning Point of Arnold has three different tracks that last 30, 60 and 90 days. The programs focus on character building, individual and group therapy, and psychoeducation, along with therapeutic activities. There is a good amount of treatment that takes place outdoors in the fresh air because of Turning Point’s location in a quiet mountain region.
Every client has a personalized program plan that includes educational and therapeutic elements in a structured environment. These treatment plans include process group therapy, anger management, relapse prevention classes, job placement and skills classes, self esteem building exercises and individual therapy. There are also 12-step meetings on and off site.
A husband and wife team, Larry and Nicole Collum, own and operate Turning Point of Arnold. They are both in long term recovery from addiction and active members of the 12-step community. They work alongside a board certified medical doctor who specializes in addiction, and LAADCs and CADCs. However it is worth noting, despite a medical presence on staff, this facility does not offer detox or dual diagnosis support.
Clients go on recreational outings in the area such as hiking and kayaking.
Every Sunday the facility hosts a family day. This entails family members coming for a visit and participating in group activities and family therapy.
Extensive aftercare planning takes place during treatment.
Finally, Turning Point of Arnold does offer a transitional living program that some clients continue on to.
Above all, Turning Point of Arnold is a caring program in a peaceful part of California. It gives clients a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives. The program is very structured and eclectic, offering several treatment options. Clients have the chance to unplug and focus on their recovery in a quiet and supportive setting.
