Turning Point New Directions For Families, Inc.The Basics

Turning Point New Directions for Families, Inc. is a private outpatient treatment program in the southwestern Atlanta suburb of Tyrone, Georgia. It was founded in 2000 by LPC, Patricia Mowry. In addition to standard outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adults, Turning Point also offers individual and family mental health counseling and court-mandated DUI and substance abuse education.

Treatment and Staff

Standard outpatient treatment is generally 16 to 20 weeks long while IOP treatment can last up to one year. Turning Point accommodates up to 60 outpatient clients total and 10 clients in each group session. Treatment includes the evidence-based practices of CBT and EMDR, as well as case management, dual diagnosis support, individual, group and family therapy. It does not include 12-step, but does support clients’ 12-step work outside of treatment. Turning Point refers clients to outside facilities for detox. In addition to substance abuse, the staff treats anxiety, depression, PTSD, sexual abuse and eating disorders.

Standard outpatient and IOP programs are divided in three levels of care that offer treatment assessment plans and one to three weekly group sessions. IOP treatment includes drug screening, weekly individual and family sessions in addition to treatment assessment planning and three weekly group sessions.

Staff includes four Master’s-level LPCs, Master’s-level family therapist and administrative support staff. The staff-to-client ratio is one-to-10.

Additional services include an extensive family program that includes at-home counseling for children and their families. Its Family Preservation program includes Wraparound Services, anger management and parenting classes, assessments and drug testing. Turning Point offers individual and group counseling through the Griffin Judicial Circuit Felony Drug Court’s alternative sentencing education program.
