Turning Point MSTurning Point Review

Turning Point is a residential treatment program for adults in Southaven, Mississippi, close to the Tennessee border and a short drive to the Memphis Airport. Turning Point was acquired and developed into a residential program in 2014 by Addiction Campuses, a network of residential treatment programs. Turning Point received The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Behavioral Health Care Accreditation.

Accommodations and Food

Turning Point accommodates 67 adult clients in a converted resort-style hotel setting. Men and women reside on separate floors in shared bedrooms with an en suite bathroom. Throughout the facility there are common area lounges with TVs. A media center is available with computers and Internet access. Clients may request to use their cell phones and personal electronic devices for professional purposes under supervision by staff. A facility phone is available for clients’ use. Turning Point recently opened an on-site gym with a pool, fitness equipment and ping-pong. Grounds include walking trails, an outside volleyball court and ample recreational space.

Nutritionist-designed meals are prepared by staff and served cafeteria-style in a dining room. Sugar and caffeine are permitted but in limited quantities.

Treatment and Staff

Turning Point’s inpatient program is 32 days. The evidence-based practice of DBT is Turning Point’s primary treatment. Other practices include cognitive counseling, individual and group therapy, 12-step and Celebrate Recovery. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) by way of Suboxone and detox through a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) are also available at Turning Point. Clients receive individual therapy three times a week and attend multiple mixed gender and gender-specific group sessions daily.

Wake up is 7 am and lights out is at 10 pm. During the day, clients move to various individual and group sessions, meals, exercise and personal down time. Most extracurricular recreational activities occur on-site. Visitation is allowed on the weekends.

Staff includes MDs, psychiatrists, Master’s-level therapists, recovery coaches and nurses who are available 24/7.

Extras

Turning Point also offers art and music therapy. The family program includes a Family Day with counseling and activities for clients and their families.

Turning Point offers an extensive aftercare program to its graduates. Prior to completing treatment, clients receive an individualized discharge plan that includes a 12-month long life skills curriculum called “A Balanced Life” that they can do at home. There is an active alumni program that encourages contact between graduates and Turning Point’s staff.

In Summary

Turning Point is a brand new, well-appointed hotel-style residential treatment program for adults close to the Mississippi and Tennessee border. It offers a well-rounded treatment program with a focus on providing practical life skills to achieve long-term success. Clients with ongoing professional responsibilities while in treatment will enjoy Turning Point’s less restrictive policies on outside communication. Turning Point’s attention to detail is evident in its accommodations, treatment program and staff’s high level of care.
