Turning point centers inpatientTurning Point Centers Review

Founded in 2006, Turning Point Centers in Sandy, Utah is a behavioral health organization that provides a range of treatment programs for alcohol and drug addiction. Aside from its flexible outpatient options, Turning Point Centers also offers several inpatient tracks for clients seeking more intensive care.

Accommodations and Food

The Turning Point residential programs include two facilities, Mountain View and Bell Canyon, which have eight and 16 beds, respectively. Though the majority of rooms are shared between two clients, some private accommodations are available. While the decor of each facility differs somewhat, both are equipped with modern kitchens and spacious interiors. Bedrooms generally come with twin beds and basic furnishings, including end tables and dressers. The Bell Canyon home features an on-site gym and basketball court. At both locations, clients can expect three healthy meals a day prepared by the staff. Special diets can generally be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

Before treatment begins, clients undergo an initial intake and assessment to help the staff develop individualized treatment plans. Duration of treatment ranges from one to three months, the latter combines residential care with an additional 60 days of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Like Turning Point Centers’ outpatient programs, residential treatment works within the structure of individual and group therapyEvidence-based practices such as CBT, REBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) are employed. Psychoeducation and EMDR are also used. Generally speaking, inpatient care puts greater emphasis on dual diagnosis support than the organization’s outpatient options.

Staff includes LMHCs, physicians, physician’s assistants and additional Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

Aside from the methods mentioned above, clients can take advantage of a wide range of holistic therapies and recreational activities, like art therapy, a ROPES Course, morning meditative walks and daily exercise at the gym. While Turning Point does not integrate 12-step philosophies into its curriculum, it encourages clients to seek out AA/NA meetings if they wish once treatment ends.

In addition, Turning Point offers free, lifelong aftercare support for anyone who completes one of their primary care programs. For those looking for continued residential support once treatment ends, Turning Point can help place clients in sober living facilities.

In Summary

In all, Turning Point Centers is an expansive facility with a lot to offer. Its inpatient programs use a combination of evidence-based and holistic approaches to treatment, aimed at whole-person recovery.  While those seeking a more traditional 12-step environment may not be best served here, Turning Point Centers is a solid resource for inpatient care.
