Yelm WashingtonThe Basics

Founded in 2005 just outside Olympia in Yelm, Washington, by husband and wife team Joseph and Carmin Ottley, Truly Motivated Transitional Living provides gender-specific sober living houses for men and women. Combining a faith-based approach with the 12 steps, Truly Motivated offers a supportive recovery community for residents.

Accommodations and Amenities

Truly Motivated Transitional Living accommodates 36 residents in four houses in a pastoral setting. There are three men’s homes and one female-only house. House One includes a spacious living room, dining area, horseshoe pit, half court basketball and laundry room. The Women’s House, which is one block from the men’s homes, includes a living room, large kitchen, landline with free long-distance calling and transportation to House One. Accommodations vary but clients are paired in comfortably furnished rooms. Amenities include Cable TV, Wi-Fi, laundry room, transportation and all utilities. Staff lives on the premises.

Besides lodging nine men, House One includes a dining hall, where male residents enjoy a daily self-serve breakfast and lunch. Family-style dinner is served for the entire sober living community six nights a week. Female clients are also provided with breakfast foods and lunch, and join the other residents for the family-style dinner at House One.

Rules and Regulations

Clients must have undergone detox prior to admission and have been clean and sober for a minimum of three days. Additionally, they must pass a drug and alcohol screening. Upon arrival, they must attend 30 12-step meetings in 30 days and after that, they must go to three weekly meetings. The curfew is 11 pm Monday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

While this sober living community is structured, they are non-restrictive and encourage residents to progress at their own pace. Clients are required to find a job, pursue an academic education or commit to community service. The resident peer panel, which is composed of senior residents, meets with clients during their first three months of residency, and both parties review long and short-term goals.

At Truly Motivated Transitional Living, clients undergo random drug and alcohol screenings. While the facility practices a zero tolerance policy, relapsed clients are allowed to reapply after three days of continuous sobriety. Additionally, they must go under the review of the resident peer panel.

Extras

Other services include the Genesis Process, peer support, a peer panel and counseling referrals. The Genesis Process is a faith-based recovery program, where clients work on inner healing and relapse prevention. Truly Motivated Transitional Living offers 12-step and faith-based meetings on the premises.

In Summary

Truly Motivated Transitional Living offers a nice combination of a 12 step and faith-based protocol, allowing clients a chance to check out a few recovery programs and see if any of them fit. The community is strong; there is a lot of support here, and the price is highly affordable. For clients seeking a structured sober living, which allows them some flexibility, Truly Motivated Transitional Living is a great fit.
