The Basics
Based just north of Provo in Orem, Utah, True North Treatment is a CARF-accredited outpatient substance abuse treatment facility founded in 2014. Though the organization is relatively new, it provides a wide range of services to treat drug and alcohol abuse, all with an emphasis on evidence-based care. Treatment is open to men and women, including those who have been court-ordered to attend rehab.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, most clients begin with an initial psychiatric assessment so that an individualized treatment plan may be developed. Those opting for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) must first go through a 24-hour medical stabilization period before beginning Suboxone, Vivitrol or Methadone.Though some treatment plans differ, they tend to work within the structure of individual, group and family therapy.
All practices are evidence-based and include the use of Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT, Rational Emotive Therapy (RET), mindfulness training and trauma-informed care. Thought 12-step principles are not a part of the programs at True North, clients are encouraged to attend meetings in addition to treatment. Groups cover rotating recovery-related topics and regular urinalysis testing is required.
As treatment comes to an end, clients work with staff members on relapse prevention strategies. Staff consists of MDs and LCSWs.
Extras
Aftercare is available in the form of stepping down to a less intensive schedule and focusing on reintegration and relapse prevention. Court-ordered clients can attend PRIME for Life DUI, anger management or anti-theft classes. Case management services are also available and based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The facility’s on-staff doctor provides a range of basic, family medical services to clients who qualify.

Overall, True North Treatment is more than just a flexible outpatient program; it works with some of the most cutting edge, evidence-based treatment methods available. Though the programs do not promote traditional 12-step recovery, clients who feel they would benefit from the added support are encouraged to attend local meetings. With a highly trained medical staff, including an on-site physician available for check-ups, both self-referred and court-ordered clients can take advantage of all the resources that this comprehensive treatment facility has to offer.
