The Basics
The aftercare through Triumph Recovery of Sherman Oaks, California, is a comprehensive continuation of the residential treatment. This men’s only program houses six clients in a transitional living home. During their stay, residents also simultatneously attend an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Programming is primarily evidence-based but also implements 12-step recovery principles—all within a safe and supportive environment built on a social model.
Accommodations and Amenities
Clients who are continuing on after the initial phase of inpatient treatment have the option of remaining in the two-story home based in the quiet and residential Los Angeles suburb. Clients share bedrooms and bathrooms and maintain common areas like large kitchen, living room and dining rooms. There is an on-site gym and spacious backyard with small gazebo that clients can also enjoy.
There is a full-time chef that prepares meals for the house, however during this phase clients are increasingly preparing more of their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
Clients who are in the outpatient program go to an off-site treatment facility five days a week at first for the IOP. As they continue in the program they eventually step down to three days a week, and finally to one or two. These days consist of group therapy and relapse prevention classes, along with individual counseling sessions. They are also required to attend a certain amount of 12-step meetings per week. Every client has their own individualized treatment and goal plan.
Treatment protocols include CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Since relapse prevention is the focus of this phase in treatment there is an emphasis on identifying triggers, communication and making healthy choices. The outpatient program is a chance for clients to implement everything they learned during the intensive inpatient stage and begin to bring it to the outside work, which means getting back into the workforce or school. There is also a strong peer support element during this level of care, and clients are encouraged to lean on each other as they move through their aftercare programs. Additionally, dual diagnosis clientele have access to continued medication management and check in’s with staff.
There is a multidisciplinary staff of medical and clinical professionals through Triumph that include LCSWs, psychologists and a consulting psychiatrist and residential techs.

Family involvement is encouraged during all phases of treatment at Triumph, and family and couples counseling is available.
