The Basics
Based out of Minot, North Dakota, Trinity Health is a non-profit, full-service behavioral health hospital that provides inpatient, outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) for addiction and mental illness. Treatment is available for adults, adolescents and children.
Treatment and Staff
Clients with substance abuse issues receive outpatient treatment through Trinity Hospital’s St. Joseph location. After an initial assessment, staff members develop an individualized treatment plan taking into account the specific needs of cultural background and gender. For those in need of stabilization, a medically-supervised detox is available on-site.
Treatment uses evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT, psychotherapy and trauma-informed care. Both group and individual therapy are available along with medication management for those with co-occurring disorders. Clients also attend educational classes with rotating topics such as the addiction as a disease model and other related issues. While attending 12-step meetings is generally encouraged, it is not required. There are no firm rules on how often clients should attend treatment sessions or how long treatment should last, but when treatment is complete, staff help create discharge plans as a relapse prevention measure.
The staff at Trinity Health is expansive and includes MDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists, LPCs, LCSWs and Master’s- or PhD-level counselors.
Extras
The facility also offers an inpatient mental health program divided age; children between the ages of four and 12, adolescents between 13 and 18 and adults 18 and up. These programs are generally reserved for those with severe mental illnesses or behavioral disorders, and while some clients enrolled may have co-occurring issues with addiction, substance abuse is not the focus of treatment.
Additionally, there is a child and adolescent PHP for young people with behavioral and emotional issues, as well as outpatient mental health counseling. Aftercare is also is available in the form of stepped down treatment schedules. Staff provides intervention services as necessary. Trinity Health provides many of the treatments one would expect from a behavioral health hospital through a full continuum of care. While not all of its intensive programs are equally geared towards mental health and addiction, each is flexible and comes with the expertise of a diverse medical staff and the resources of a full-service hospital.
