For almost 20 years, Trinity Alliance, a division of the Capital Region Homer Perkins Center, Inc., has operated out of Albany, New York. The facility provides intensive, long-term residential substance abuse treatment to adult male clients who must stay a minimum of 12 months. The Trinity Alliance program is the only substance abuse program currently offered by the CRHPC. Trinity Alliance utilizes evidence-based treatment methods, and while clients may be introduced to the 12-step approach, the main focus of this program is therapeutic and educational sessions.
Accommodations and Food
Trinity Alliance houses clients in a large two-story home-like setting. A total of 20 beds are arranged in dorm-style rooms which clients share with at least one other resident. All sleeping quarters are situated on the upper floor of the facility—with the exception of one room which is reserved for clients with mobility issues.
The kitchen, classrooms, dining room and administrative offices are found on the first floor. While in treatment, clients are assigned chores—such as preparing meals, housekeeping and general maintenance. Trinity Alliance is described as a community/family program, and as such, clients are encouraged to interact and cooperate with their fellow residents.
Treatment and Staff
The Trinity Alliance residential program takes a holistic approach and creates individualized treatment plans for each client. Group therapy is scheduled throughout the day and there are also two evening classes with topics such as coping skills, wellness, life skills and substance abuse education. Additionally, there are opportunities to participate in parenting courses and dance lessons. Trinity Alliance also offers individual therapy, HIV/AIDS education classes and on-site AA/NA support groups. On Tuesday afternoons, clients have free time.
Trinity Alliance staff consists of three licensed substance abuse counselors, a food service manager, a GED instructor, two support people and six part-time staff members. The program is staffed 24/7.
During the first 90 days, new clients are paired with a peer who must accompany them at all times, especially to any off-site appointments. After the 90 days, clients are allowed to be by themselves. Beyond treatment, Trinity Alliance gives access to work readiness training and helps clients work through vocational, educational, familial and other problems. Visiting facilitators come in for occasional lectures.
With two decades in operation, Trinity Alliance of the Capital Region Homer Perkins Center, Inc. is a well-established residential substance abuse treatment facility providing a holistic approach to recovery. With an impressive range of group topics and educational opportunities combined with evidence based treatment and the 12-step framework, clients are given a solid foundation for lasting recovery.
