Located in Austin, Texas, Tribe is a sober living facility that provides transitional accommodations for men in the early stages of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Tribe offers a communal atmosphere that is safe and supportive, and believes that spiritual development as an integral component of successful recovery. The 12-step recovery model is a major aspect of the process. While medication management is not available, individuals with mental health conditions are referred to psychiatric help. 

Accommodations and Amenities

Tribe is situated in a 2,300 square foot, single-family home in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Austin. With four bedrooms, the facility accommodates seven men at a time. A sense of community is an important aspect of sober living. With only seven residents at a time, clients enjoy both a tight-knit group of peers as well as the privacy necessary to focus on recovery. Tribe provides plenty of comforts and amenities including a spacious floor plan, large bedrooms, a roomy kitchen equipped with new appliances and a cozy common area with a couch, fireplace and flatscreen TV. There is also a nicely manicured backyard with a patio, a home computer and a meditation room. Residents come together to eat a communal meal on Sunday nights. There is shopping, restaurants and a pool within walking distance. Clients also have access to a personal trainer at a nearby gym. For residents with academic goals, Austin Community College is a short drive away. 

Rules and Regulations 

Tribe expects residents to take responsibility and commit to their own recovery journey. While the length of stay varies from person to person, clients are asked to stay a minimum of three months. Some individuals stay at Tribe up to a year. The facility offers a mind-body-spirit philosophy for sober living and a number of therapeutic services more commonly seen in residential programs, including holistic practices, life coaching, workshops, life skills training and the 12-step recovery model. Clients participate in daily mindfulness meditation groups, yoga classes as well as weekly discussion groups that focus on general wellness for the “whole person.” Tribe provides an array of complementary holistic practices like breathwork, massage, acupuncture, somatic experiencing, sound healing and Shamanic drumming that heals through spiritual energy. Residents work with life coaches on a weekly basis to set goals and prepare for the transition back into regular life. Residents are responsible for attending regular 12-step support meetings, obtaining a sponsor and participating in a weekly in-house meeting to discuss common issues and developments. Clients are encouraged to work, go to school or volunteer. Tribe also helps clients learn valuable life skills such as budgeting and offers one-on-one counseling.
