The Basics

Tribe Integrative Recovery is located in Camarillo, California, northwest of Los Angeles. Tribe opened its doors in late 2014 and provides several levels of outpatient treatment. Many of its clients also reside at its nearby upscale sober living residence. Currently, Tribe’s sober living facility is only open to those enrolled in its outpatient program, though that may change in the future.

Tribe’s Clinical Director is Nancy Swanson, LMFT, who has over two decades of experience in substance abuse treatment and family therapy. As indicated by its name, Tribe emphasizes connection and support as a means to lasting recovery. It has a strong family program in outpatient treatment and multiple community activities in its sober living residence.

Treatment and Staff

The duration of treatment at Tribe is progress-based, with clients staying anywhere from from three months to over a year. Clients often start treatment at the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) level of care and then step down to Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient levels of care as they progress.

PHP clients meet for group therapy from 9 am to 3 pm each weekday. IOP clients usually attend group therapy three to four days each week and standard outpatient clients one to two days each week. Most clients also have individual therapy every two weeks.

The treatment team at Tribe includes LMFTs, CADCs and a consulting psychiatrist who provides dual diagnosis support. Therapy uses DBT, CBT and mindfulness techniques. Groups have fewer than 12 participants and address topics such as self-love, relapse prevention and neurolinguistic programming. Clients also take part in writing workshops to explore the narrative of their addiction.

Tribe also has gender-specific groups for men and women and dedicated groups for clients at different life stages. Its Millenial group is for clients under 35 and its Legacy group is for clients over 40, though clients of all ages are in most processing groups in order for them to learn from each other. Clients are also required to attend at least three 12-step meetings each week.

Tribe has two high-end sober living homes with six beds in each. Clients have roommates in the mission-style homes, which feature avocado trees, orchards and oak floors. The homes have flat-screen TVs, pool tables and queen beds. Residents have “karma yoga” assignments to help maintain the homes, including assisting the chefs with meal preparation.

The staff takes sober living clients on recreational trips designed to foster community and trust, such as rafting and sky diving. Clients are transported to daily 12-step meetings and they also have a weekly dinner with an in-house 12-step meeting.

Extras

Weekly family therapy is encouraged, and Tribe holds a family weekend every six weeks that features education and support groups. Families can also attend a weekly Tuesday night family group throughout their loved one’s treatment.

In Summary

Tribe Integrative Recovery’s outpatient and sober living programs work together to provide clients opportunities to build trust, community and a sober social life over several months of coordinated treatment. Its pleasant surrounding and comprehensive family component ensure that clients feel physically and emotionally supported as they develop self-awareness and new coping skills in recovery.
