Trevor ShevinThe Basics

Interventionist Trevor Shevin is a New York state credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor (CASAC) who performs interventions though Primary Recovery Services, which opened in 1986 and serves New York City and surrounding areas. He offers individualized treatment coaching and recovery services to clients with co-occurring disorders, substance abuse, sex, gambling and shopping addictions.

The Background

Shevin brought his MBA and decade of experience of working on Wall Street to the recovery field and is now the Director of Intensive Case Management, specializing in handling the most extreme cases at Primary Recovery Services. Shevin is also a Board Certified Interventionist Professional following formal training and monitoring. He also completed the Certified Addictions Recovery Coach training program. Shevin is actively involved in the community and has dedicated his life both personally and professionally to being of service. He is frequently requested to speak to recovering addicts throughout the United States at hospitals, prisons, and inpatient recovery facilities. Shevin volunteers at the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) and runs groups for executives as well as recovering alcoholics and addicts focusing on life adjustment issues and integrating professional, personal and spiritual growth. Shevin is a member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

The Approach

Primary Recovery Services offers many programs, including sober companion, sober escort and intensive case management. The intervention specialists on staff perform an in-depth assessment of the client and gathers as much information as possible about their addiction from their family members, then designs a personalized intervention plan. The agency’s goal is to treat the entire family in the intervention process. Part of that means educating them about the disease of addiction and its consequences and uniting the family during the intervention. In some cases, the specialist will stage a rehearsal, which helps prepare the loved ones for what the process looks like.

Primary Recovery Services also works out the details with the treatment facility, and then maintains a relationship with the client while in treatment. In order to make sure the client gets to the facility without incident, they offer transportation services to and from. The specialists are also able to help with aftercare planning, whether it’s a sober living home, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)—or both—in their own community. Additionally, there are resources for treatment, like Al-Anon, that the interventionist offers the family, as well as counseling and support services.

Once the client leaves treatment, sober companion services are offered, which may entail helping the individual get a sponsor and attend 12-step meetings, or re-enter into the work force.

Post-Intervention and In Summary

Trevor Shevin of Primary Recovery Services brings many years of experience to his clients, and is prepared to jump in and help the entire family during a time of crisis. The array of options available and ability to help place the client in a facility that would truly suit them makes him a solid option for those in the New York area.
