Boulder COThe Basics

Transitions Enhanced Sober Living Home for Women in Boulder, Colorado offers holistic treatment options for women in recovery for addiction. Providing access to alternative medicine therapies, sober and life coaching, case management and mindfulness work, Transitions is a sober living facility that provides short and long-term residence.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Transitions home is located in central Boulder. The house itself is fully furnished with high-end décor and both single and double occupancy bedrooms. Clients each have large closets and full-size beds. With a total of five bedrooms, Transitions can accommodate a maximum of eight residents at a time. Women share three bathrooms—two with showers and one with a bathtub.

The living room, used for meetings and socializing, is spacious and decorated with two leather couches and a love seat. Wi-Fi is provided throughout the house and use of personal electronics is permitted. For entertainment there is a TV with cable. As a bonus, another common room in the house has been set aside specifically for meditation use.

A large fenced-in backyard offers privacy and a peaceful space for outdoor living and relaxation. The stocked kitchen has new appliances, dishes, pans and utensils for preparing meals. Transitions is near grocery stores and clients must provide and prepare their own food. Transportation is provided to and from markets and shopping malls to connect with community job resources and for attending meetings.

Laundry services are provided in the house as long as residents have their own detergent. All staff members have specific roles and work to help residents with employment assistance, alternative medicine referrals, individual therapy resources, sober companionship and development of life skills.

Rules and Regulations

Transitions has specific rules and requirements set in place to ensure clients have a healthy experience and a strong foundation for their recovery. Clients must be there a minimum of three months and are welcome to stay as long as a year. Transitions believes that forcing a house member to leave before they are prepared could put their sobriety in jeopardy, so a flexible residence policy is essential.

Residents are expected to remain drug and alcohol free for the entirety of their stay. Daily breathalyzer tests and drug toxicology screenings are taken to ensure the safety of each resident and the other house members. Having employment is also required before a client’s first 30 days in the house. Keeping on top of responsibilities, groups, meetings, jobs and house chores is a part of learning how to live independently.

At a daily reflections group, residents read from AA literature (including Daily Reflections) and are expected to share about their current struggles and victories. Weekly individual DBT sessions are held with the staff member appointed to each specific client. In addition, participation in a 12-step program is required with attendance of a minimum of three meetings per week. Working the steps with a sponsor and remaining active in service work is an essential component to treating each client’s issues with substance abuse.

Residents may also benefit from attending mandatory yoga classes—a unique approach to treatment that incorporates the physical, mental and spiritual practice of combining yoga asanas with the 12 step group component. Clients are also expected to participate in Acu-Detox—acupuncture treatments that assist with the mental and physical states of detoxification. The staff acupuncturist places five needles in and around the ear on specific pressure points to help with common symptoms of drug and alcohol withdrawal like sleeplessness, irritability and cravings.

Curfew is midnight on weekdays and 1 am on weekends. Residents are expected to respect the curfew times unless they have a job that keeps them working late hours.

Extras

Located near the Marshall Mesa Trailhead, residents can take advantage of easily accessible outdoor activities. Clients are encouraged to hike, bike and participate in winter sports to help them remain healthy and active during their recovery. Transitions is also a community liaison through AA in Boulder.

In Summary

Transitions takes a holistic approach to helping women build new lives in sobriety with compulsory participation in alternative health therapies like yoga and acupuncture. This sober home is a good fit for women seeking a gender-specific 12-step community and an in-house program preparing them for independent living.
