The Basics
Since 2007, Dr. Taunya Marie Tinsley has provided flexible outpatient treatment for substance abuse, mental health and sports performance issues through her practice, Transitions Counseling Service. Though she primarily works with adolescents and young adults, Dr Tinsley is open to taking on clients of any age. Her offices are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Treatment and Staff
Much like traditional talk therapy, there is no standard duration of treatment at TCS and approaches to recovery vary by client. However, all treatment tracks involve a combination of individual and group therapy and may incorporate couples, marriage and family counseling and support for multicultural issues, spiritual guidance, Christian counseling, psycho-social skills or sports counseling. Treatment methods are person-centered, humanistic and existential therapy coupled with CBT, REBT and Psycho-educational sessions. Introduction to 12-step principles and outside meeting recommendations are given on a case-by-case basis. Clients struggling with co-occurring disorders like generalized anxiety and depression can also find support here.
Dr. Tinsley is an NCC and an LPC with a Master’s degree and a PhD, though some of her training is specifically rooted in Christianity.
Extras
TCS offers life skills training for major transitions, identity issues and leadership support. The organization also runs Love and Basketball Ministries, which focuses on providing Christian-based psychological support, social services and leadership training for athletes.
