Transformations Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center Review
Since 2007, Transformations Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center has provided both outpatient and inpatient substance abuse treatment services, as well as on-site detox, in Delray Beach, Florida. The program at Transformations incorporates a combination of evidence-based therapies, the 12 steps and psycho-education classes to give clients a holistic treatment experience that addresses psychological, physical and spiritual needs. Transformations also offers optional specialized therapy for those seeking a Christian faith-based approach to recovery.
Transformations Executive Vice President of Clinic Services, Dr. Maureen Espisito, holds a PhD in Marriage and Family Counseling and trained at the Hanley Hazelden Center, one of the world’s largest private non-profit addiction treatment centers.
Accommodations and Food
Clients requiring detox before beginning inpatient treatment can do so at Transformations’ on-site detox facility, Summit Detox. Depending on the substance the client is detoxing from, the process takes an average of five to seven days.
The inpatient treatment facility houses up to 85 residents. Most residents are accommodated at Integrity Way VIA, a garden-style complex with two bedroom, two bathroom condominiums. Clients each have a private bedroom and bathroom and the complex features a pool, basketball court, a clubhouse and pond views. Each unit has washers and dryers, flat-screen TVs and fully-equipped kitchens with stainless steel appliances with granite counter-tops. The complex’s clubhouse has a telephone and computer that residents can use under supervision. Male clients with lower-paying insurance are housed nearby at Integrity Way Villa, a smaller condo complex where they share double-occupancy bedrooms.
The Transformations life skills coach takes clients grocery shopping on the weekends. Residents are responsible for making their own meals throughout treatment. They are transported back to their condo from the nearby treatment facility each week day to make their own lunch.
Treatment and Staff
The minimum stay for inpatient treatment is 30 days, though many clients stay up to 60. Transformations prides itself on its ability to customize treatment. Upon entry, each client is assigned a counselor who tracks their progress and adjusts their individualized treatment plan as-needed. Treatment places heavy emphasis on the 12 steps and encourages clients to attend daily 12-step meetings which Transformations transports them to.
On a typical day, clients prepare their breakfast and clean their apartments then meet for an 8:30 am meditation session. By 9:30 am they’ve been transported to the treatment facility and attend group therapy for two hours. After a quick trip home for lunch, clients return for more group therapy, individual therapy and education classes until 4:30 pm. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday clients are transported to a private gym to work out under the supervision of a personal trainer. They prepare dinner in their apartments, and afterwards they either attend an off-site 12-step meeting or, on occasion, one that Transformations hosts on-site. Lights are out at 11 pm. Phones and computers are not allowed in residents’ apartments, but they can use both under supervision in the complex clubhouse.
Therapies used at Transformations include CBT, EMDR, and hypnotherapy. A unique aspect of treatment at Transformations is the range of treatment tracks—specialized classes and process groups that further customize treatment based on the individual’s needs and background. These include gender-specific groups and classes for survivors of sexual assault, a first-responders program for those who might be suffering from PTSD from their work in the line of duty and Christian faith-based therapy that explores the relationship between recovery and Christian religious beliefs.
Transformations employs a robust clinical team that includes Master’s-level therapists, LCSWs and licensed mental health counselors (LMHCs), psychologists and a holistic medicine specialist. Clinicians are trained to treat clients with dual diagnosis and process groups explore living with co-occurring disorders. Nurses are on-site from 8 am to 5 pm, medical technicians are staffed at the residence from 4 pm to 12 am and a psychiatrist is always on-call.
Extras
Transformations uses genetic testing to match clients to the best treatment modalities for their biological make-up and also employs a chiropractor/holistic medicine specialist who helps clients determine the best natural supplements to aid their recovery. It also offers BrainSolutions, a program of exercises and therapies to enhance cognitive function.
For recreation and community building, Transformations provides a music studio, hosts yoga classes, barbecues, movie nights and expeditions such as deep-sea fishing. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of volunteering opportunities and family are invited to the residence one weekend each month for participation in recovery programming.
After completing inpatient care, clients can step down to Transformations’ Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient programs. It also hosts a weekly alumni group to support clients with aftercare for up to six months after treatment has ended. Transformations offers job placement assistance and a weekly free class to support the families of those battling addiction.
