Transformations By The Gulf Review
Transformations By The Gulf is an addiction and co-occurring condition treatment facility for men and women in St. Pete, Florida. Treatment uses a holistic, whole person approach and gender-specific housing facilities. Each client’s individualized treatment program focuses on specific issues and how men and women struggling with addiction tend to deal with them. In addition to the evidence-based treatments and 12-step support, there are alternative programming options like “boat therapy,” and specialized tracks for pregnant women dealing with chemical dependency. The facility does not offer on-site detox.
Accommodations and Food
Transformations By The Gulf’s location at St. Pete Beach in Tampa Bay just happens to be one of the top rated beaches in the US according to Trip Advisor. The separate mens and women’s residences are close to the beach in safe and quiet neighborhoods.
Both facilities are single family homes. The women’s home has five bedrooms, and is fully furnished and modern. The bedrooms are usually shared between two clients, however there are times when private accommodations are available. The program provides all linens and towels, and there is a washer and dryer on site available for client use.
Male reside in apartment style housing three blocks out from the beach. Similar to the women’s facility, clients usually share bedrooms but may be in a private room if they are available.
Both facilities have free Wifi and cable, and fully stocked kitchens. Clients shop for their own food and prepare their own meals during the program.
Treatment and Staff
Going to treatment right next to the beach has its perks. As a result, Transformations does its best to integrate its prime location into the treatment schedule. Mornings typically start with an early walk along the ocean, followed by a short meeting with the treatment team and daily reflection group. Before breaking for lunch, clients attend skill building groups.
The afternoon has several group sessions that cover relapse prevention, health education and mindfulness. This is also the part of the treatment day where clients can exercise, attend a yoga class or nutritional training sessions.
Clients attend evening AA or NA meetings, or alternatives like SMART Recovery, on and off-site, and have groups on the weekends or sober outings. There is also plenty of time factored in for clients to enjoy personal time.
There are gender specific and co-ed groups offered, including gender specific 12-step meetings. Several different therapy approaches are used during counseling sessions. They include CBT, REBT, EMDR, play therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and art therapy.
Several medical professionals oversee the residential program. They are consulting psychiatrists, physicians and psychiatric nurses, along with therapists who have extensive experience in addiction. They are LMHC, CAP, LCSW, CAC. In addition there are herbalists, yoga instructors, acupuncturists, and fitness instructors on staff.
Clients receive treatments like acupuncture during their treatment. There is also a personal trainer on staff.
The gender-specific residential program at Transformations is very comprehensive and complete. Treatment is truly holistic and clients go through their programming with set goals in mind and a caring staff aids every step of the way. Transformations really care about the clients and their continued success in a substance-free life.
